fy_middleage – funny Counter-Strike 1.6 map

Hey, see what I digged out a few days ago! Once upon a time I created a quite funny Counter-Strike 1.6 map, I think it was 2004 (I was 13 years old then…). It is, as the name suggests, a middleage-themed map, just two small rooms and two corridors, but the size is what makes it so funny.

Download Counter-Strike map fy_middleage here (1.3Mb)!

Just extract the files from the archive and move them to your maps folder, probably C:\Program File\Counter Strike\cstrike\maps\. Then restart the game and launch the map!

Google H4×0r – Google version for 1337 nerds

Are you one of the nerds who write every second $3n73n(3 £1|{3 7h1$ (”sentence like this” for non-nerds)? Then you may be interested in this:

There is a Google frontpage completely written in Leetspeak, 1337, L33t or whatever you want to call it. So “Search” becomes “s3a|2ch”, “Advanced Search” will be “4DV4NC3D 534RC|-|” and so on.

If you are too lazy to write in such a weird way but still want to be “nerdish” then I would suggest one of these L33t converters:

Albinoblacksheep Leet Translator
Ultimate Leet Converter
1337-converter on devianART

Have fun being freaky :P

Google employees created Spreadsheet Art

Actually I thought Google’s “20 percent time”, a programme that allows all Google employees to spend 20% of their working time (one day per week) on projects that interest them. Google owns everything the programmers create during that time, so it can will promote the creativity of its employees and although some working time is lost for the company, they can expect great new inventions. Probably the most well-known invention is Gmail, Google’s great mailing service. But also other useful services such as Google News and AdSense emerged from ideas of Google employees.

But this time, they used their time for some kind of rubbish. Seriously. 4 Google employees opened a Spreadsheet (see Google Docs) all the same time, resized the 18600 cells of it to small squares and used background coloring to paint some kind of christmas art. See more about it in this video:

But at least the video is cool. See the picture below or  click here, if you want to see this crap with your own eyes (or even worse: create your own spreadsheet art!).

How to decompile/reverse engineer/disassemble any XNA Game!

Today I’ll show you how to get the source code of any game that’s made using C#, the .NET Framework and Microsoft’s XNA Framework. Basically, this will also work for all .NET Applications, but for XNA Games it’s more difficult, so I will explain it for XNA here.
I hope you understand and like it, if there are any issues, please comment to help me improving this tutorial!

Warning: You may violate copyright laws in your country if you try to obtain property (in this case source code) that you don’t own! Check your legal situation before following this tutorial! I won’t be responsible for any criminal offence done with the information provided!

Step-by-step tutorial to disassemble the game

Things you need

  • An XNA-based game
  • .NET Reflector
  • Visual Studio 2005/2008
  • XNA Game Studio 1.0/2.0/3.0

Decompiling the binary file

First of all, you need a really great tool called .NET Reflector. You can download it from the official website or from my server. The .NET Reflector can look inside .NET binaries (.exe and .dll files) and disassemble the code to any of these programming languages: IL, C#, Visual Basic, Delphi, MC++ and Chrome.

Drivewatcher – useful tool to analyze hard disk operations

Ever wanted to find out where MSN stores its contact database? Or Firefox saves your Cookies? Then Drivewatcher is the right tool for you!

It analyzes every change that’s made to any of your hard disk drives. All partitions are shown as tabs, and every tab shows the time, the file path and the operation done on the particular file.
Even if you don’t want to find out what an application is doing, you can just try it to see how many file operations are done by system processes you’ve never heard of. Just give it a try!

Drivewatcher 1.0 Download

Please comment if you like it or wish more features!

Cray produced fastest super-computer in the world

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in the USA announced that its new Cray super computer “Jaguar” reached a computing power of 1.3 Petaflops. This should beat even the fastest super computer in the world, the “roadrunner” with around 1.026 Petaflops. The release of the 32nd Top500 list in one week should bring certainty.

E-Book readers coming up

In the last time, E-Book readers are coming up. In the beginning, they were heavy, had bad displays and were really expensive. But by now, the developers managed to create some products really looking worth to buy. Currently, there are two major readers: the Amazon Kindle and the Sony PRS-505.

With Kindle, Amazon wants to overtake the E-Book reader market. It features an 15cm display with 800×600 pixels and has the size of a normal book. The user can download E-Books directly from the Amazon shop using a free mobile connection, so you’ve got basically all available books with you at every time. Up to 200 books should fit into the internal memory which can be extended with an SD memory card.
The battery should last for one week, since it only needs power to turn pages (once the new page is loaded, the display keeps the image without needing any power). In addition, the user can add comments to lines of the E-Book. Price: 280€ (360 US$)

Microsoft turns a bus into a mobile office

How’s this for a double-edged sword? Microsoft is providing free bus transportation to work for some of its employees in China. Hey, that’s great! It saves money as well as the environment. The downside? The bus is full of workstations, meaning everyone it picks up gets to work that much longer every day. But surely, the working time in the bus won’t be counted as part of your eight-hour working day. So do you really want to work more just for free transportation instead of listening to your iPod, talking to your colleagues, …? And what’s about the motion sickness? Would you be able to read a book while the bus is shaking over Chinese roads? The same with looking a computer screen.
