For Vista and win7 there is practically the same way as described in article.
But with xp pro I have the same problem as Dave – the “Software Restriction Policies” just missing in applet.

This has nothing to do with screwing up your registry, these XP tools won’t destroy it. But your tool will probably work as well.

What a rigamarol. Why take a chance on screwing up your regisgtry. An easy way to kill the Avira Notifier ad (and a lot of others including dialog buttons) is with Clickoff. You can download it at http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/clickoff/clickoff.html

I have XP Professional on all my computers, so I didn’t know that… There doesn’t seem to be any similar function in Home, so you have to search for another solution

It doesn’t work on xp home.
there’s no such thing as secpol.msc
