WARNING: Please do not use this method for illegal activity such as hacking passwords without the other user’s consent!

1. Your Windows passwords are stored in the Windows registry. In order to reset them, you need access to  this registry without running Windows. Luckily, there is a tool called “Offline NT Password & Registry Editor” which contains a small Linux kernel and drivers for your hard drives. Download the tool from this server or the official website.
2. Extract the RAR archive. Now you need to create a bootable device in order to run the tool:
   Using a CD: Just burn the ISO file to any empty CD and proceed.
   Using a USB memory stick:
   Format the memory stick in FAT32 format (rightclick it and choose “Format”) and enable “Quick Format”. WARNING: When formatting, all data in the memory stick will be lost!
   
   Open the ISO file with WinRAR (or any similar program) and extract all files onto the memory stick.
   Start the console (Press WINDOWS + R and type cmd, press ENTER), enter the drive letter of your memory stick (e.g. L: ), then enter “SYSLINUX.EXE -ma L:” (replace L: with your drive letter). This will set the boot record for your memory stick, enabling your computer to use it as boot device.
   
3. Now plug in the USB memory stick or insert the CD into the drive of the password-locked computer and switch it on.
4. When the BIOS image is showing up, make sure you enter the “Boot Menu”, usually by pressing F12.
   
5. A window should pop up asking you to choose the device to boot from. Select CD or USB HDD.
   
6. After a few seconds, this screen will show up. Just press enter to boot normally.
   
7. Now a lot of text will appear on your screen while the system is loading drivers for your hardware. Just wait until it comes to a stop and waits for your input. Now the tool is asking on which partition your Windows registry files are located. Usually, this would be  the first partition, but since there is a small (100MB) backup drive in Windows 7, you should take the next one, enter the number below and press enter.
   
8. Next, it asks for the path to your registry files on the drive. These are usually fine, just press enter to continue. When the files are located, you can choose what to do. Enter 1 and hit return for “Password reset”.
   
9. Then you have to select “Edit user data and passwords” by entering 1 again and pressing Enter
   
10. Enter your account name from the list and press Enter
    
11. On the next screen, enter 1 to “Clear (blank) user password”. You may also select 4 to “Unlock and enable user account” if you have entered the password too often and it is locked. If that’s all you wanted to do, enter ! and press return to quit.
    
12. Enter q again to leave the next menu and write the files by typing “y” in Step 4.
    
13. Now your password has been reset, just restart your computer normally and you should be able to log in to Windows again!

   By using the “ncr” statement, you make sure that you’re not redirected to a local version of Google (e.g. .de, .cn, .co.uk, …)

Warning: Jailbreaking your iPod/iPhone will void your warranty. Downloading cracked applications is illegal and may have legal consequences. It is not my intention to motivate people to do illegal things, everything you do will be on your own risk!

Notice: This will only work with the latest generation of iPods/iPhones with Firmware 3.1.2 or higher! The blackra1n jailbreak will probably not work with the MC models (iPod  touch 3G with 8GB).

1. Jailbreak your iPod/iPhone

Before you will be able to install applications other than the ones from iTunes Store, you must jailbreak your iPod. Please consider the warning above before jailbreaking your iPod.

The easiest jailbreak for the 3.1.2 firmware is blackra1n. This tutorial will only focus on blackra1n.

Warning: blackra1n is a so-called “tethered jailbreak”, meaning that everytime you reboot your iPod (e.g. due to empty battery or after switching it completely off) you will have to run blackra1n again. Running blackra1n again won’t install or uninstall any applications but just enable the iPod to start again.

1. Download blackra1n either from the official website or from this server.
2. Make sure you have installed at least firmware version 3.1.2 in iTunes.
   
3. Close iTunes but keep the iPod connected to your computer via USB.
4. Open the downloaded blackra1n.exe file and click the “make it ra1n” button
   
5. Your iPod will go into recovery mode now and reboot. You should see this on your computer:

6. Now wait for the iPod to reboot, shouldn’t take longer than a few seconds. Once done, launch the “blackra1n” application that appeared and install  Cydia and Rock.
   

2. Enable the installation of cracked application

1. Open Rock, the application you just installed with blackra1n.
2. Go to Manage -> Manage Sources -> Edit -> Add and enter http://cydia.hackulo.us to enable downloads from hackulo.us, then click Add Source
   
3. Go to Search, search for AppSync and install “AppSync for OS 3.1″
   
4. That’s it,  your iPod is now able to install cracked applications.
   For the case that cracked apps won’t work, try installing AppSync again with Cydia instead of Rock.

3. Download and install cracked applications

1. The biggest cracked application repository out there is Appulo.us, so you should try getting your desired application there first. The website is quite slow and sometimes offline, so be patient.
2. If Appulo.us doesn’t find the application you want or is offline, you may use downloadipa.info, apps.su or search torrents and rapidshare for “<app name> ipa” (ipa is the extension of cracked apps).
3. If the downloaded app came in a zip file (which is the case with most apps downloaded from Appulo.us), rename it to .ipa
4. Double-click your ipa files to add them to iTunes
5. Sync the iTunes applications with your iPod
6. Launch the application on your iPod!

That’s why I decided to create a very simple Currency Exchange Rates API. This API allows you to either get the conversion rate from US Dollar to your desired currency or can directly convert an entered value. The output is plain text, without HTML or XML attributes for easy access from all sources.

How does it work?

Just call the URL of the API with your desired exchange rate as parameter, e.g.

for Euro. This will return the exchange rate from USD to EUR:

Which currencies are supported?

All in all, 126 different currencies are supported. See a list of all supported currencies on the index page.

Are the values up-to-date?

The API updates itself once an hour, so the values you’re getting may be up to 1h old. This should be good enough since these values are for information purposes only.

How can I use the API on my website?

This example shows how to use the API to display 100$ in € (please replace the &amp; stuff in the URL with a normal &, can’t display it correctly here):

How does the calculator work?

The calculator works almost the same way as the API itself. Call calculator.php with three parameters: original, target and value. original and target are ISO codes of the currency, and value is the amount of orignal currency to convert. The output is the corresponding amout of target currency.

How accurate are the values?

The acuracy of the exchange rates can’t be guaranteed. All values are for informational purposes only. See the footer of the index page for more information.

Download WortopiaBot 1.0 Perfect Edition

Download WortopiaBot 1.0 Perfect Edition source code

There are 2 versions of this bot, one is called “Perfect Edition” because it always reaches 100% if the program can access the right database. Before I found out that the original Wortopia database is available under open-source license, I used other databases that reached only around 80%. Thus I also created a “Learning Edition” that checks the words from last round and adds them to the database, in addition to the removal of wrong words. If the Learning Edition plays enough games, it should optimize its database  to the same accuracy of the Perfect Edition.

The Learning Edition will be available for download from SourceForge soon.

I won’t give an detailed description of how the program works, if you’re interested, have a look at the source code. I think it is quite self-explaining, but if there are still questions, feel free to comment!

There is also an auto-starter tool that checks when a new round starts and launches WortopiaBot then. This is really useful if you use the Learning Edition and want to optimize the database as much as possible. You will find more about it in the readme file.

What can I do when the “Change CD-Key” button doesn’t show up?

The Warcraft 3 CD key is not stored in the Windows Registry as many other games do, it’s encrypted and saved somewhere in your “war3.mpq” file. In order to change the key, the application needs to know where your installation of Warcraft 3 actually is. When the button isn’t there, you don’t have the right registry entries.
In order to create the registry entries, please download Lescos Warcraft Toolkit. Open “LWT.exe”, go to the “Registry” tab and browse for your “Warcraft III.exe” file. Then click “Make entries”.
Restart the CD key changer tools, the link should be there now.

First of all, download the Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne CD Key Grabber package.

Extract the file wc3_tft_CDKeyGrabber11800.exe from the RAR archieve and launch it. You will see a black and white window for around 5 seconds, then it will change to a black window that looks like this:

Now launch Warcraft 3 (Frozen Throne) and click on Local Area Network, as the program suggests. Now you can minimize Warcraft 3 by pressing either the Windows Key or ALT + TAB or just exit it. The CD key grabber will show your Reign of Chaos (and Frozen Throne) key in the fields that were blank before.

That’s it basically.

For the ones who are interested in the science behind that tool:

For Warcraft 3 it’s not as easy as for other games where you can just read out the Windows Registry. Warcraft 3 saves its key in the war3.mpg file which is kinda harder to access. You won’t be able to get the key from the file itself because it is encrypted in there. But in order to play online or LAN, Warcraft 3 sends a request either to the Battle.Net servers or to active LAN servers. This request also contains the CD key in order to get authorization from the server. The CD key Grabber tool launches a TCP listener that waits for the request from Warcraft 3. When going to the Local Area Network lobby, Warcraft 3 scans your LAN environment, detects the “server” hosted by the CD key Grabber and sends a request (usually done to get the game name and map). Now the application is able to get the key from that request and will display it.

The only bad thing is that after every update a popup containing advertisement is shown. This banner is always the same and shown almost every day since AntiVir updates as often as once a day. Here I will show you how to disable the annoying ad banner without having to hack/crack/patch AntiVir.

This works only with Windows XP, perhaps I will find a way for Vista or Windows 7 some time!

Click on Start -> Run… -> type “secpol.msc” (without the quotes) and press enter to open the local security settings.

If you never created any security policies before, you have to set them up first. In order to do that, right-click the “Software Restriction Policies” entry on the left and choose “Create New Policies”. If you did anything in that section before, you can skip this step.

Now the folders “Security Levels” and “Additional Rules” should be there. Navigate to “Additional Rules”, right-click and choose “New Path Rule…”. In the window popping up click browse and navigate to your AntiVir folder (usually C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic) and select the “avnotify.exe” file. Set “Security level” to “Disallowed” if it isn’t already and hit OK.

This tweak forbids the execution of the “avnotify.exe” file which is responsible for the popups. Deleting the file is not possible, AntiVir will crash when trying to access it. This works as long as the filename of “avnotify.exe” is not changed through an update, and if it is, you can do the same thing for the new file.

Now follow the steps below to make your own customized version of Windows 7 for your Netbook. This is quite complicated compared to a normal installation of Windows 7, and perhaps there will be an easier way in the future, but until now, this is better than nothing, and you can have the other SDD for all the stuff you want to have on your netbook.

Get Windows 7

You can download Windows 7 Beta 1 either from the official  Microsoft Windows 7 download site or via Torrent, which should be 100% legal since the official version has been released for public testing. Download torrent file.

Required software:

Prepare the Windows 7 image

First of all you have to put the Windows 7 disk on a diet to make it fit on the Asus Eee PC. To achieve this goal we use vLite. On first start you will be asked for your Windows installation files. If you have an ISO file just mount it with Daemon Tools/Virtual Clone Drive, in case you got a Windows 7 DVD put it in your drive. Then hit the ‘Browse’-button and point to your Windows files. You will be asked for a folder to copy them to the local harddisk. This may take a while. When asked for the Windows Edition, make sure to choose ‘Windows 7 ULTIMATE’. Choosing anything else will mess up the installation.

Afterwards click ‘Tasks’ on the left pane and choose only the two options ‘Components’ and ‘Bootable ISO’. Leave the other entries as they are. Then hit ‘Preset’ on the menubar, choose load, select the *.ini file you downloaded (’Windows_7_EEE_900′) and press ‘Components’ on the left pane. You can close the ‘Compatibilty’-popup. Make sure to select all languages except the one which fits to your keyboard. Then you will see a popup which offers three different methods of creating your installation. Choose ‘Rebuild One (Ultimate)’ and hit OK.

This may take a long time, so don’t worry. After this is done, you will be offered to create the ISO file. Click ‘Make ISO’ (NOT Exit at this point), choose the name and path to save and the process will start.

Now we’re done with vLite and you should end up with a 1.26GB ISO file.

Create a bootable Windows 7 USB thumbdrive

The second step is to create a bootable USB thumbdrive as described in my earlier tutorial about how to install Windows 7 on the Asus Eee PC 900. Use the ISO you created with vLite instead of the original Windows 7 ISO/DVD.

Now take another USB thumbdrive (128MB should be enough in this case) and create another bootable media with Acronis True Image. Insert the thumbdrive into one of your computer’s USB ports and go to Start -> Acronis -> True Image Echo Server and select ‘Bootable Rescue Media Builder’. When asked for the target media choose your small USB thumbdrive and after a few minutes you’re done.

Installation

Now install Windows 7 as described in my earlier tutorial about how to install Windows 7 on the Asus Eee PC 900 using the bigger USB thumbdrive you prepared.
You will have to install it to the 8GB SSD since it won’t fit on the smaller one, but don’t worry – we’ll take care of that. After a couple of minutes or even hours the installation should be done and you will end up with a working Windows 7 on your 8GB SSD. Now you’ll have to apply a few tweaks in order to decrease the size of the installation.

We’ll start with deactivating the pagefile for all drives. Therefore right-click on ‘Computer’ and select properties. On the left side choose ‘Advanced system settings’ and hit ‘Settings’ under ‘Performance’. Click the ‘Advanced’-tab and afterwards the ‘Change…’-button. No deselect the ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’, select drive C:, choose ‘No paging file’ and click the ‘Set’-button right beside it. Now hit OK in each window until you see the ‘System properties’-windows again.

Click ‘System protection’ on the left pane this time, continue with ‘Configure’. In the popup choose ‘Turn off system protection’ and hit OK until… you already know that.

Now deactivate hibernation, since it takes around 1GB from your SSD. Click the Start-button, search for and select ‘Disk Cleanup’, choose drive C:, click OK and select every option available. Then hit OK again and we’re done, hibernation is disabled.

The last step is to decrease the recycle bin size. Right-click on it and choose 200MB for drive C:\

Reboot the Asus Eee PC now to check the drive space on your system disk. There should be something around 2.9GB used. If so, go on – if not check the steps again and repeat them if nothing else works.

Just in case you don’t have a USB HDD… format your Windows 7 USB thumbdrive now, because we’ll need about 3GB (better 4GB) for image creation.

Now plugin your Acronis-bootable thumbdrive and your USB HDD/4GB USB thumbdrive and restart. Make sure to boot the Acronis thumbdrive and choose Acronis True Image Full Version (in case you integrated the safe version, too). When loading finished (this may take some minutes) select ‘Backup’ and choose your 8GB SSD as captured device and the USB HDD/4GB USB thumbdrive as target. You don’t need to choose any compression, password protection or anything else. Wait about 10 minutes, then the process should be done.

After that reboot from the Acronis thumbdrive again, make sure that the other drive is still connected and choose ‘Add new Disk’ first. Choose your 8GB SSD, delete all partitions on it and reformat it or leave it unformated – it doesn’t matter in this case. Now you should be redirected to the main menu. Choose ‘Recover’ this time and select the image you created to restore. Afterwards you will be asked for a target disk – choose the 4GB SSD. During the next step choose ‘Resize target partition’, and the select the space AFTER the 200MB partition. Don’t delete this partition because Windows 7 needs it for start up. You should be asked for that so DON’T choose the option ‘Delete partitions on target media’. Afterwards you can start restoring the partition. This will take another 10-15 minutes.

When Acronis finished its job, prepare the USB thumbdrive you already used for the Windows installation again for the Windows installation. This time it doesnt matter wether you take the vlited ISO or the original ISO for that. Boot this thumbdrive again, choose your language and select ‘Repair this computer’. After Windows PE searched for your Windows installation you will be asked wether you want to quit or ‘Restart and fix Problem’ – select the second option.

Now you should end up with a working Windows 7 version on the smaller SSD with about 750MB free space. You can add drivers now and start installing software on the 8GB SSD.

• Computer with DVD drive or Image Mounting tool or Image Extracting tool
• Asus Eee PC (or any other netbook)
• Approx. 3h of time

How can I install Windows 7 on my netbook?

Create a bootable USB thumbdrive

First of all, if you haven’t got an external DVD drive, you will need a few tricks to install any Operating System on the Asus Eee PC since it has no CD drive.

But luckily the mainboard is quite cool and supports booting from USB devices, such as an USB thumbdrive. For Windows 7 Build 6956, you need at least 2.3 GB memory, so rather go for a 4 GB stick. Rumors that USB booting supports only 2 GB are not true!!

Plug the USB thumbdrive into another computer and download the following tool package:

Download USB_PREP8, PeToUSB, Bootsect.exe

Extract all the files inside and navigate to the usb_prep8 folder. Inside, double-click the executable batch file called usb_prep8.cmd. You will see a screen like this:

Press any key to contine, after a few seconds it will show you this window:

Make sure the options “Enable Disk Format”, “Quick Format” and “Enable LBA (FAT16X)” are checked and the correct USB drive is selected in the dropdown list above. This formatting process will erase all data on your USB thumbdrive! Save all files you need before formatting it! Then click start, click OK and click YES in the window asking you whether you really want to erase all files. After a few seconds, the stick should be formatted. Now close the PeToUSB window and the remaining console window.

The thumbdrive is formatted in a way that supports booting now, but the boot record is still not correct. In order to fix that, you have to use the other tool you extracted, called bootsect.

Press Start, Run and enter “cmd” (without the quotation marks), then press enter.

In the console window showing up, navigate to the path you extracted the bootsect folder to. You can use the “cd” command (change directory) and enter the name of the next folder afterwards (e.g. “cd Desktop”) to access the folder, or enter “cd ..” to move one folder back. If you enter only the first part of the folder name, e.g. “des” and then press TAB, it will auto-complete it to “Desktop”. This way you have to navigate into the bootsect folder.

Inside, enter “BootSect.exe /nt60 I:” and press enter to prepare the boot sector. Replace “I:” with the drive letter of your USB thumbdrive! The option “/nt60″ prepares the thumbdrive for use with Windows Vista and Windows 7, if you want to install XP choose “/nt52″.

After pressing enter you should see something like this:

Target volumes will be updated with BOOTMGR compatible bootcode.

I: (\\?\Volume{789ae78e-c3da-11dd-b1a9-000e2e405744})

Successfully updated FAT filesystem bootcode.

Bootcode was successfully updated on all targeted volumes.

Now your thumbdrive is ready to be used as boot drive!

Put Windows 7 on your bootable thumbdrive

Now you have to move all the files required for installation to the USB thumbdrive you prepared. Now you have 3 choices:

1. Windows 7 is on a DVD:
   Just put the DVD into your DVD drive, open the Windows Explorer, rightclick the drive and select “Explore”. Now use CTRL + A to mark all files on the DVD, press CTRL + C to copy them, go to your thumbdrive and press CTRL + V to paste them. It will take a few minutes to copy all the stuff.
2. Windows 7 is an image file (*.iso, *.mdf, …)
   You can mount the image using a tool such as Daemon Tools to create a virtual DVD drive which tells Windows that the Windows 7 DVD is inserted although it isn’t
   When the image is mounted, you can follow the instructions of 1.
3. Windows 7 is an image file and I don’t want to mount it:
   You can use any of the various extracting tools like WinRAR or MagicISO to extract the image file just like a normal ZIP or RAR archive and copy all the files to the thumbdrive. If you chose MagicISO, rightclick in one of the file explorers shown on the top and select “Extract”.

Whatever you do, just make sure that ALL the files from the DVD/Image are on the thumbdrive afterwards!

Prepare the Asus Eee PC to boot from USB devices

Now plug in the prepared USB thumbdrive into your Asus’ USB port. Start the laptop and enter the BIOS setup by pressing F2 immediately after the grey Asus Eee PC screen showed up. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the Boot tab.

Now select “Boot Device Priority” and press enter. Make sure the first boot device is “Removable Dev.”! After that, press escape to go back, navigate to the “Exit” tab and choose “Save changes and Exit”. After saving the BIOS settings, the grey screen will show up again. Now press Escape, it will bring you to a screen where you can select the boot device:

Select “USB” and press enter. You will have a black screen for about 5 seconds, then Windows 7 setup will load!

Follow the steps of the installation until it is done! There shouldn’t be any issus, but if there are, please feel free to comment! After the installation, which will take around 2 hours I guess, the Eee PC with Windows 7 is almost ready for use!

Installing necessary drivers

Surprisingly, Windows 7 already includes WLAN and Audio drivers, so you can surf the internet and play music right from the beginning on.

Video drivers are not supplied. Without them, Windows 7 can only display a resolution of 800×600 and can’t use any of the special stuff, so you should get them. Sadly, Intel doesn’t supply and for Windows 7 yet, and the normal Asus Driver disk doesn’t even contain some for Windows Vista. You can download the latest Intel GMA 915 drivers here: Intel Download Center.

You have to run them in Compability Mode for Windows Vista in order for them to work! Rightclick the executable, select “Properties”, “Compability” and tick “Run this program in compability for: Windows Vista”. Then the installation should work.

You can do the same trick with all other driver supplied by Asus, but acutally you don’t need to do it. I just kept the drivers Windows 7 installed for me.

Aero on the Asus Eee PC

Even with the new Intel Graphics Drivers, Aero isn’t running! I didn’t find a way to get it started yet, even all the registry hacks suggested didn’t help. Either they work for Vista only and not for Windows 7, or the GMA 915 is too worse even to try it out. If you find a way for it to work, please tell me!!
